Research areas
In the focus of his research are bioactive natural products. Gene knockouts, heterologous expressions of proteins, and classical feeding experiments are used for the elucidation of biosynthetic pathways. Further major fields of his research address enzyme mechanisms and stereochemical aspects of terpene biosynthetic pathways, the discovery of new bioactive secondary metabolites, and the elucidation of their structures by spectroscopic methods or total synthetic approaches.
