Extraction and dissemination of FAIR chemical data

News Item

We streamline the discoverability of your research by incorporating machine-readable chemical information into many of our published articles. This includes the conversion of chemical structures from submitted ChemDraw files to InChI strings and validating them using open-source tools. These InChIs, along with other information, including the chemical name and the formula, are then embedded in a machine-readable form into published articles.

We disseminate this data in the following ways to adhere to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable):

  • We embed InChIs and other details in JSON-LD format within the HTML metadata of your article. This format, highly preferred by Google, increases your article’s visibility in search results. We follow schema.org’s "Chemical Substance" standards for interoperability.
  • We embed the chemical information in the XML of the articles.
  • For selected articles, we automatically deliver chemical structures and information to PubChem, a public database of chemical compounds. Our in-house chemistry experts ensure data quality control before submission.

In essence, we have implemented a semi-automated workflow using open-source tools that supports the dissemination of chemical information through established channels. This not only makes your research more discoverable, but also conforms with FAIR data principles – all at no cost and with no additional effort from you.
