This thematic issue focuses on the innovative use of nanotechnology for the treatment and remediation of water and wastewater. As global environmental challenges demand more efficient and sustainable solutions, nanomaterials and nano-enabled technologies offer promising pathways for pollutant removal, resource recovery, and advanced water treatment.

We particularly encourage contributions that explore cutting-edge nanotechnologies applied to pollutant removal, membrane development, advanced oxidation processes, and catalytic remediation. Submissions that touch on resource recovery (e.g., nutrients, rare earths, or hydrogen) or integration with renewable energy systems are also welcome, as long as the core focus remains on water/wastewater treatment.

Topics of Interest Include (but are not limited to):

  • Nano-enabled adsorbents, membranes, and filtration technologies
  • Nanomaterials for removal of heavy metals, microplastics, PFAS, or organic pollutants
  • Photocatalytic and electrochemical methods for wastewater purification
  • Wastewater treatment integrated with resource recovery (e.g., nutrients, hydrogen)
  • Water purification systems powered by renewable energy or decentralized technologies
  • Nanotechnology-based sensors for monitoring water quality
  • Environmental fate, toxicity, and life-cycle analysis of nanomaterials in water systems

Submission deadline: March 1, 2026
